My Derby Day started at 5:45am in Sydney with a mad dash to the airport. Can’t miss that plane to Melbourne! The outfit had to be something uncrushable, as there was not much time to prepare when I got to the other end. I was meeting my dear friends Michael and Lindy Klim at the Intercontinental hotel before we all caught a helicopter to Flemington. Michael is a legendary Australian swimmer and all around nice guy while his wife Lindy is a gorgeous Balinese princess and one of the most stylish women I know. Together they started a skincare company called Milk , while Lindy is about to launch her smart casual clothing range Sunday Lux which will be stocked at Myer next winter. I don’t see these guys often enough, but when I do we always have a great time.
Derby day is a really fun day at the races, traditionally black and white is worn so everyone looks monochromatically elegant. Last time I came to Derby day I won $1100 on a $10 bet – I couldn’t believe it! I had picked the worst horse on his beautiful name and he won! Lucky girl! I was hoping to repeat this blind good fate today…
The Birdcage is an enclosure at Flemington where a lot of corporate sponsors have pavilions. It’s like a really uproarious block of fabulous champagne, great food, stylish people and at the end of the day even dancing .This year I visited Lexus, Myer, Mumm and Lavazza all of which were incredible in their own way.
Thank you Lindy & Michael, Emma Van Handel & EVHpr, Myer, Mumm , Lexus & Lavazza for a fabulous day!
