From the opening light fantastic upon the Opera House sails , courtesy of the french visual duo Superbien, to the throbbing depths of The Studio , the Vivid festival descended on the Opera House on Friday. Watching the dancing masses heaving under the strange rhythm of the Crystal Arc , the thought crossed my mind that The Studio just might be the best nightclub in Sydney.Incredible sound,a great sized dance floor with an awesome projection screen, comfortable balcony seating and when you need a breath of fresh air you get to do so while looking at the Sydney Harbour Bridge , sipping on a Belvedere vodka soda. Can we make it permanent ?
Not that the view mattered on Friday night while listening to Azari & III , whose infectious beat literaly took control of my limbs until i was an involuntarily moving mass of happy matter. Don’t miss their second performance in the Club Kooky hosted show on the last night of the festival,Sunday the 5th of June, which is shaping up to be the biggest party on the Vivid calendar.
Spiritualized performed a languidly beautiful show that was offset by an array of strobe lighting and a gospel choir on Friday while on Sunday Cut Copy brought the whole Concert Hall on their feet and kept them dancing till the end of the set. Later the boys recalled Robert Smith of The Cure popping into their rehearsal, sitting through a song and even giving a relaxed applause at the end. Talk about dropping the pressure!
With shows often happening simultaneously at separate stages it was hard to catch everything and there was so much going on. Must develop Metro Man ‘s super speed !
