It’s a little known fact that I spent some of my early teenage years in Auckland, New Zealand after relocating from Croatia. This was the place I learnt all about black sand beaches, customising school uniforms, the Possums as pests benefits, what amazing pinot noir tastes like, how beautiful dew drops look on ferns, hip -hop, merino wool, Nirvana and benefits of amazing cheese. This is also where I got my start as a model when an agency approached me while shopping for shoes at age 15.
Fast forward nearly two decades and many globe relocations later to an email in my inbox from a boutique NZ label Moochi who asked me to design a dress for them as part of their bi-annual Dress Week. Along with 4 other talented NZ women, I tried my hand at designing the perfect LBD. It was such a fun experience but also a little difficult – with the manufacturing team across the Tasman designing a dress wasn’t as easy as I imagined. We then had to take into account commercial viability, fabric, price and the label’s aesthetic before we came upon a vision that both sides approved of . My LBD is a reflection of my love of vintage and the 80s brought into the 21st century with sharp tailoring and discreet gold detailing. Paired with a suit jacket, this dress likes to work hard but come night time I would say it likes to be taken out to show off the wearer’s curves!
Thanks Moochi for this fun experience!
